My research is about genetic and epigenetic variation in adult individuals with type 1 diabetes. While genetic variants are inherited from the parents, epigenetic factors can be affected by lifestyle and the environment. I aim to identify (epi)genetic cues that explain why some people develop diabetic complications in the eyes and kidneys and vasculature.
