Family-Friendly Workplace

Folkhälsan is certified as a Family-Friendly Workplace by the Family Federation of Finland (Väestöliitto). The certification demonstrates that the workplace takes social responsibility and is committed to making it easy for its employees to combine family – in a broad sense – and working life.

About the certificate

Folkhälsan received the Family-Friendly Workplace Certificate in 2023. The certificate is granted by the Family Federation of Finland (Väestöliitto) to workplaces that meet the criteria for family-friendliness. It demonstrates that the organization takes social responsibility seriously and is committed to promoting a family-friendly work culture. The certificate is valid for three years at a time.

A broad view of family

Family-friendliness at Folkhälsan is not limited to employees with children – it reflects a broader understanding that includes different life stages and family constellations. Clear workplace policies, opportunities for flexibility, and open communication with employees are key to creating a family-friendly environment. Such practices and attitudes support the well-being, equality, and productivity of the entire staff.

How is family-friendliness implemented at Folkhälsan?

Every employee at Folkhälsan is equal. Equality in the workplace means that the management treats employees in similar situations as equally as possible and according to agreed policies and guidelines.

We communicate to current and future employees what family-friendliness means to us. We are prepared to deal with unexpected family-related situations and strive to adjust our work accordingly, e.g. days off.

We consider that employees’ circumstances at home and at work may vary. If necessary, we can make special arrangements. All arrangements should follow general guidelines (collective agreements, legislation), but they can still be tailored.

We make sure that employees are aware of the guidelines, policies and the person's responsibilities regarding family leave, annual leave, absences and payment of wages.

We take notice of our employees' significant family occasions and adapt workplace practices to best meet different needs. We can organize family events to which family members are welcome.

We create a common set of rules in order to balance work and family life. The rules help us prevent situations where the work community faces an unreasonable workload when someone is absent.

We adopt good practices (assignment of roles, substitution, prioritization) that help the work community to cope with situations where a staff member is absent.
